It is a brand new year — heck, it is a brand new decade! I have been doing what most people do around this time of year — reflecting on my accomplishments of the last year and was a little disappointed. So, I thought to make myself feel better, this is a new decade, where was I ten years ago. Ten years ago, the year 2000, what was I doing then and what am I doing now? In no particalur order (as I have no order to my brain what-so-ever):
Year 2000
- Just graduated from Columbus State University with my degree in Computer Science.
- Three years into my software development career at TSYS.
- Turned 23 and freshly divorced from a two year marriage (way too young)
- Moved to Atlanta from Columbus to further my career and actually do client/server development — no more Assembler! BEST CAREER MOVE!
- Traveled to Europe for the first time (England and Ireland) and fell in love
- The year I first came out (to friends and family)
Year 2010
- Working at Turner Broadcasting as a web developer
- Bought a cute bungelow almost two years ago (this August, wow time flies)
- Turning 33 (yikes – I hate odd numbers!)
- In a great relationship, it will be two years in March
- Traveling once again to Europe (Greek/Mediteranean cruise)
- Having my family over for MY first Thanksgiving (breaking the old traditions!)
I feel much better. I am in a better place all around. So when you think you haven’t accomplished much in a week, month, year…take a minute and reflect. I bet you will see how much you have grown. Each day adds to a week which adds to a year which adds — you guessed it — to a decade. You can not have one without the other!
I am one lesbian looking forward to a great new year (urgh…decade!)
Happy New Year all…
